A learner driver from Cambridgeshire has revealed that she managed to pass her practical driving test ‘with concussion’ just 24 hours after she destroyed her learning car due to the actions of another driver.

Press reports state that Hazel Ross, 17, ‘totalled’ her Renault Clio with ‘L’ plates just one day before she was due to take her test.

According to an article on Cambridgeshire Live:

A ‘concussed’ learner driver from Cambridgeshire who claims to have been forced off the road by an impatient motorist totalled her car and then passed her driving test the next day.

Hazel Ross, 17, from Ramsey, was driving with L plates in her silver Renault Clio, with her mum Wendy and friend Dylan Ayres, at around 10.30am along the B660 Glatton Lane, just off the A1 towards Holme, on Friday (August 30).

She was driving to Chatteris for her final driving lesson, ahead of her test the next day.

Along the way, a motorist with a Ford Fiesta drove behind her before overtaking her on a bend along the road.

But while attempting to complete the manoeuvre, Hazel claimed the Fiesta drove too close to her when it went back into the left-hand lane, causing her to brake to avoid hitting the car and lose control.

She told Cambridgeshire Live: “I swerved to avoid him hitting me, but I hit the grass verge.

“My mum yelled my name to alert me about going on the verge, since there’s a ditch either side of the road, and I swerved back to the right.

“Next thing I know, I’ve lost all control of the car and we’ve cleared the ditch, and are headed towards a rusted metal pole in the field.”

But despite the crash and a concussion, Hazel was still determined to take a lesson to prepare herself for the test the next day.

She gave confirmation to the driving instructor, took her driving lesson and arrived back home by 6pm.

The next day, she took her test and passed with three minors.
