A 43-year-old mum who was already banned from driving over ‘alcohol offences’ has been given a further six penalty points and a fine after a ‘neighbour with a grudge’ filmed her moving her car off her driveway and into a nearby parking space.
We know that she was technically breaking the law, but surely this is a level of neighbourly pettiness that Victor Meldrew himself would aspire to.
She was also given a £200 fine.
According to Gloucestershire Live:
A mum who had been banned from driving was filmed by a neighbour as she moved her car just ten metres into a parking space near her home, a court heard.
The neighbour then sent the video to the police, who arrested 43-year-old Rebecca Overton-Applebee and charged her with driving while disqualified and without insurance.
The defendant, from Vicarage Street, Painswick, Stroud, pleaded guilty to the offences when she appeared before Cheltenham magistrates on Thurday.
Said prosecuting lawyer Sonia Alford: “The defendant is disqualified from driving until October 2021 following an excess alcohol conviction.
“On March 2, this year she was seen driving a short distance from her driveway with her two children in the back of her car.”
The court heard that the defendant had been banned from driving for excess alcohol on two previous occasions.
Defending lawyer Andrew Hobson said; “No alcohol was involved in this case and my client only drove for ten metres out of her driveway to allow her friend to park her car there.
“Her friend was then going to drive my client’s car to a doctor’s appointment for one of the children.”
The court heard that the defendant’s neighbour bore her a grudge and provided the police with video evidence of the incident.
“The neighbour has numerous CCTV cameras and spies on my client,” said Mr Hobson.
“On the day in question he was gesticulating at my client and being verbally abusive to her.”
Surely there’s ‘Neighbourhood Watch,’ and then there’s just being a ‘n*b.’
