About The Author

All seven finalists for the European Car of the Year 2027 award are fully electric, the organisers say, marking the first all-electric shortlist in the competition’s history.

The shortlist announced on 30 October includes models from BMW, Cupra, Hyundai, Kia, Renault, Volkswagen and Volvo. The winner has not yet been chosen.

The seven finalists

  • BMW iX3
  • Cupra Raval
  • Hyundai Ioniq 3
  • Kia EV2
  • Renault Twingo
  • Volkswagen ID.Polo
  • Volvo EX60

The finalists cover a range of vehicle sizes and styles. A place on the shortlist is recognition by the award’s jury, not a guarantee that a particular car will suit every driver’s budget or needs.

What happens next?

The organisers say jury members are due to test the finalists at Italy’s Balocco circuit on 25 and 26 November. Their shortlist announcement says voting runs until 31 December, with the result due to be announced at the Brussels Motor Show on 8 January 2027.

An earlier organiser page gives a different voting deadline, 29 December. The announcement date is consistent across both pages; the later shortlist announcement is the source for the deadline above.

For UK buyers, prices, specifications and delivery dates can differ by model and change before orders or deliveries begin. Check the manufacturer’s current UK information before making a decision. The shortlist itself is a European award and does not establish UK availability or a winner.
